SUN (Schools Uniting Neighborhoods) Community Schools in Multnomah County are full-service neighborhood hubs where the school and partners from across the community come together to make sure students and families have what they need to be successful – in school and in life. McDaniel's sponsoring lead agency is Immigrant and Refugee Community Organization (IRCO) (https://irco.org/)
McDaniel SUN Community School works to engage the community in a systematic way to educate and support youth by providing wrap-around supports that eliminate barriers to academic success. We provide the following school-based services:
- Supper, free meal (Monday-Thursday at 3:30pm)
- Escalera with Latino Network (11th-12th Grade)
- Early Escalera with Latino Network (9th-10th Grade)
- SUN Tutoring (Monday-Thursday, 3:45-5:30pm)
- Jobs 101 and Pathways to Trade with Impact Northwest
- Step Up
- College Possible (11th + 12th Grades)
- IRCO Culturally Specific Groups (African, PI, and Asian students)
- SUN Workshops (Ie. Ceramics, CPR Certification, Food Handlers Card, etc)
- Black Student Magazine
- K-Pop Club
- Urban Street Art Club/Cada Casa CANS Class
- Dungeons & Dragons Club

Extended Day Programming
Extended Day programming is run in partnership with local non-profit community partners, as well as IRCO SUN Staff. All classes are free! Extended Day Programming beginning October 4, 2021 at 3:30pm in The Commons. Supper will be served from 3:30-3:45pm with programming to follow.
McDaniel SUN Community Partner Programs include:
College Possible, Latino Network, Portland State University, Oregon Food Bank, Africa House, Pacific Islander Asian Family Center, Impact NW, and Jobs 101.
Adult Education

There are no current SUN classes for parents at this time. However, Latino Network provides Colegio de Padres, for parents of middle and high school students, hosts workshops that help parents, many of whom are immigrants, understand the educational system in the US and the challenges facing their children.

McDaniel Food Pantry

The McDaniel Community Food Pantry will be open for shopping starting Friday, October 8th from 2-4pm. It is located next to the lower parking lot/across from the football field.
